Appearance
Icarans are winged humanoid of medium size. Without the wings they can pass for a human with striking angular facial features and shoulders that are wider than most humans. There eyes tend to be of dark colors but can include black, brown, gold, red, blue, green. Hair color tends to be lighter blonds to almost white and their skin is often tan or darker.
Attitude
The Icarans have long enjoyed life in the open skies with little interaction with other kingdoms. So encounters with new peoples are cautiously handled. Icarans pride themselves on strength in combat, skills at the hunt, construction and dance. Once per year a festival is held in the winter to allow the males and females to prove their skills to one another. This ends in a dance where the more skillful adults find a mate. Those that did not find a mate or were rejected will try again the next year. Couples will spend the next few months building their home. Come spring these couples with produce from 1 to 4 eggs. Each egg is about 20 centimeters in diameter and weighs near 5 kilograms and is jealously guarded. Each parent will take turn guarding their clutch of eggs while the other hunts or works. Near late spring early summer the eggs hatch. The next 15 years will be spent raising the offspring and many couples will have additional clutches the following years. Older children will often assist one parent or the other with duties.
Architecture
Icarans build there cities high on cliff faces or mountain spires. Each home is carved into the rock face with a large opening for greeting and entertaining guest. These opening are enclosed by glass blocks to protect against the weather and noise from outside. Farther in is the homes interior and it is restricted to family members only. Here you would find a cooking hearth, bedrooms, storage rooms, family room and of course a nursery. These structures and the furnishings are of simple design but rugged. Trades are handled within a home as well so additional room will be provided. Merchants usually have an additional room near their main opening.
Leadership
The Icarans are lead by a King and Queen. They also have noble bloodlines.
